Dr. Kristin Engebretsen

Dr. Kristin Mary (Vandehey) Engebretsen, age 47 of Cannon Falls, MN died peacefully at her home on Friday, April 6, 2018 after a long fight with a chronic disease.

Kristin was born on June 19, 1970 in Neenah, WI, the daughter of William and Mary (Draxler) Vandehey.  She graduated from Merrill High School in Merrill, WI in 1988 and went on to receive her B.S. in Chemistry from St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI in 1992.  She went on to the University of Minnesota to graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1996.  Most recently she worked as a Toxicologist at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN.  She was very active in professional organizations and served as the President of the American Board of Applied Toxicology and was a Clinical Professor at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.
Kristin was married to Dr. David R. Engebretsen on August 13, 1994, and they made their home in Cannon Falls, Minnesota.

She was a passionate cook and loved to entertain people at her home with large meals and good wine.  Nothing made her happier than to celebrate life with family and friends.  She helped countless people in need of medical care for toxicological problems and also loved to teach students entering the field. Kristin was dedicated to raising her two boys and enabling them to both succeed and live life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 24 years; her sons, Alexander and Nicholas; parents, Bill and Mary Vandehey of Merrill, WI; her sister, Dr. Kim (Dr. Corey) Apprill of Merrill, WI and their sons, Colin and Cooper; parents-in-law, Dr. Robert and Dale Engebretsen of Denmark, WI; brother-in-law, Eric (Kristine) Engebretsen of Zionsville, IN and their daughters, Ellie and Leah; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Gerald and Thelma Vandehey and Robert and Jean Draxler.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m.  Friends and family are welcome to come together at 1:00 to remember Kristin's life.  Services will be held at First English Lutheran Church 511 W. Belle St., Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating.
