Walter Westerson

Walter Julius "Billy" Westerson, Jr., age 78 of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

Billy was born on July 6, 1930 in Red Wing, the son of Walter Sr. and Olga (Anderson) Westerson.  He grew up and attended school in the White Rock area.  He farmed with his father for many years on the family farm in White Rock.

He served with the US Army and was stationed in Germany from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.  He received the Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He retired from farming and moved in to Cannon Falls in 1990.

He was a member of the Vasa Lutheran Church, and enjoyed reading, the outdoors, and reminiscing about his farming days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Warren "Tim" Goyer and Leland "Skit" Goyer; and two sisters, Phyllis Montey and Bonnie Westerson.

He is survived by six nieces and nephews, Dayle "Nub" Montey of Texas, Darnell "Bink" Montey of Welch, Gayla Hallquist of Coon Rapids, Cindy Hennessey of Moorhead, Terry Goyer of Red Wing, and Warren Goyer Jr. of California; and several great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cannon Falls Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Dobbins officiating.
