Wallace Nelson

March 9, 1930 — August 6, 2007

Wallace C. Nelson, 77, of Cannon Falls, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wallace was born on March 3, 1930 in Leon Township in Goodhue County, the son of Joseph and Randie (Ohnstad) Nelson. He attended Wastedo country school. On July 2, 1961, Wallace was united in marriage to Janice A. Bornholdt at South Zumbro Lutheran Church near Kasson. The couple made their home and raised their children across from the family farm near Cannon Falls. For many years Wallace worked with his father in the farming business. Along with farming, he had also been employed part-time for Haugen Hatchery and Maple Island, both in Wanamingo, and was a school bus driver in the Wastedo District. Wallace was a passionate grandfather, always enjoying the delightful presence of his family and grandchildren. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, faithfully ringing the bell for over 40 years. He liked woodworking and drives around the countryside to observe the progression of the crop growth. He was well-known for his black raspberries by many in the area.

Wallace is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janice; children, Dawn (Mark) Olson of Lakeville, Mark (Debbie) of Maple Grove, Cindy (Marc) Lyon of Zumbrota; 7 grandchildren: Ben, Katie, Scott, Emily, Joshua, Matthew and Michael; 2 brothers, John (Barb) of Wanamingo, Clifford (Ruthann) of Cannon Falls; 2 sisters, Rose Nygaard of Kenyon and Mavis Nelson of Arizona. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Wallace was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold.
