Virgil Wayne Rapp, age 89 of Cannon Falls, died on Monday, November 27, 2017, at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Virgil was born on August 7, 1928, in Cannon Falls Township to Axel E. and Olga B. (Nordquist) Rapp.
He attended country school District 46 and served in the US Army as a Paratrooper from 1946-1948 in Japan during the occupation.
He married Doris Ethel Teske of Kramer, ND, on February 20, 1949, at Bethel English Lutheran Church in Rochester.
After retiring from the Goodhue County Assessor’s Office in 1994, he enjoyed his retirement years working at Interstate Building Supply.
He was a lifelong member of St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of Nelson-Scofield VFW Post #4452 and was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Whitetails.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Doris; six children, Bonnie (Brett) Quinnell, Donald (Anita), Rodney (Sandy), LaVerne (Holly), Laurie Hill, and Howard (Brenda); 27 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother George (Clarise) Rapp; sisters-in-law Lenore Rapp, Marian Rapp, and Bev (Vern) Berg; and brother-in-law Lawrence Teske.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Olga Rapp; infant sister Olga; sisters Clara (Ray) Samuelson, Rosella (Virgil) Holm, Doris (Eldridge) Banks, and Lucille (Milton) Callstrom; brothers Henry, Conrad (Mildred), Raymond (Delores), Arnold (Norma), Marvin, and LeRoy; sisters-in-law Evelyn Murray and Ruth Teske; brother-in-law Victor Murray; grandson Michael Forsell; and granddaughter Amber Rapp.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017, from 1-5 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls.
