Vernon Reiter

July 28, 1941 — December 27, 2009

Vernon J. “Vern” Reiter, age 68 of Cannon Falls, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Delray Beach Medical Center in Delray Beach, Florida following a massive heart attack.

Vern was born in Wabasha, MN on July 28, 1941, the son of Vernon C. and Vera Reiter. He attended Elgin grade and middle schools and graduated high school from Waseca School of Agriculture. He then graduated from Austin Vo-Tech. Vern enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1968, after a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Vern graduated from Control Data Institute and accepted a position with Mohawk Data Sciences (M.D.S.) in Herkimer, New York. He married Antonia J. “Toni” Aiello on July 19, 1970. He was employed at M.D.S. until he accepted a position with Control Data as a Computer Field Supervisor in Plymouth, MN. He then accepted a position with I.B.M. in St. Paul, retiring in 2001.

Vern enjoyed motorcycle riding, snowmobiling and classic cars.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Toni of Cannon Falls; his father, Vernon C. of Elgin, MN; sisters and brothers, Judy (Dale) Donlinger of Eyota, Gene (Shirley) Reiter of Elgin, Linda (Fred) Meurer of Chatfield, Glenn (Diane) Reiter of Elgin, and Doug Reiter (Rose Montgomery) of St. Charles; mother-in-law and stepfather, Alice and John Vedovati of Herkimer, NY; nine nieces and nephews, and three step nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera; father-in-law, Anthony Aiello; nephew Rob Harwood; and his grandparents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, 7459 Hwy 19 Blvd in Cannon Falls. Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Carol Sinykin will officiate.

Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
