Vern Lagerquist

Vern Roy Lagerquist, age 82 of Cannon Falls, passed away on Thursday morning, February 26, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Cannon Falls. Vern was born on July 30, 1932 in Deephaven, MN, the son of Albert and Dayna (Jacobson) Lagerquist. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1950, and attended 2 years at Milwaukee School of Engineering. He went to work at Univac (later Unisys) in 1958, until retiring in 1991. He married Joann Doyle on April 23, 1960 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He was an active member of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, where he was a member of the Father Paul Judge Knights of Columbus Council #4481. He served as Randolph Township clerk for ten years, and also as a volunteer through AARP, providing free tax preparations for area citizens. Vern enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, and feeding the birds. He loved taking short trips along the Mississippi River, and especially loved his nieces and nephews. Vern was a Swede who preferred corned beef and cabbage to lutefisk and who was proclaimed an honorary Irishman by Joann's relatives. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Joann; and nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ray, Maurie and Milt; and sister, Alvera Larsen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 W. Colvill St., Cannon Falls. Spring interment will be at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery near Prior Lake. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Duvlea, John Larsen, Steve Holmes, Paul Lagerquist, Pete Flaherty, and Sean Folmar. Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.
