Verida Hempel

Verida Hempel, age 87, of Cannon Falls, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon. Verida Arlene Hempel was born in Faribault on March 5, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Paquin) Langevin. She grew up there and graduated from Faribault High School in 1947. Verida was married as a young woman and her husband was tragically lost in a drowning accident two months later. She met and married Joseph W. Hempel in the late 1940's. They moved to Cannon Falls in the 1950's. Joe preceded her in death in 1976. Verida was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church. She loved canning all kinds of food and spending time with her family. Survivors include her children Kenneth (Cherry) Hempel, Paul Hempel, Jeffrey (Aileen) Hempel, Gerald, (Lori) Hempel, and Joel Hempel; grandchildren Jennifer, Joshua, Brianne, Brett, Kelley, Rebecca, Rida, Joel Jr., Tina, and Marie; several great-grandchildren; sister Marlene (Arlo) Hannasch of Colorado; and nieces and nephews. Verida was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, her son Gregory, and a brother Lawrence. Blessed be her memory. Memorials to the family are preferred in lieu of flowers.
