Stanley George Sommers, age 97 of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and formerly of Maplewood, MN passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Frankfort, KY. Stanley was born July 8, 1919 in Clearwater, MN, the son of Sylvester and Laura M. (Isensee) Sommers. Retiring in 1984, Mr. Sommers worked as a custodian for the St. Paul Public Schools. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. His enjoyments later in his life included watching CNN and working crossword puzzles. Along with his wife, Gladys Marion (Duncan) Sommers and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sommers, a sister Fern, and five brothers, James, Marvin, Ray, Edward, and Don Sommers. Mr. Sommers is survived by four children, Fern (Tom) Edgett of Lawrenceburg, KY, Roger (Pat) Sommers, Sandra (Ed) DeLaForest, and Debra (Kevin) Flanagan, all of Minnesota; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Strack of Cannon Falls. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment with military honors will be on Monday, October 3 at 10:15 a.m., Assembly Area #3 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
