Cannon Falls

Shirley Van Guilder, age 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, June 11, 2018.

Shirley Ann Krupp, daughter of Emil and Frieda (Olp) Krupp, was born on August 1, 1937 in Faribault, MN.  She attended Trinity Lutheran in Faribault for grade school and graduated from Faribault High School in 1955.

On May 17, 1958, Shirley married Larry George Van Guilder at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. Together, they raised three children Julie, Steven, and Lisa. Shirley now joins their fourth child Amy in heaven.

Post high school, Shirley worked at Woolworths as a manager of the hardware department. After she married Larry, she worked at Sheldahl’s in Northfield. She was then a homemaker before she attended nursing school at the Faribault Vo-tech, later in life. She then worked as an LPN at Cannon Falls Nursing Home and later volunteered for Cannon Falls Hospice.

Shirley had a wide variety of hobbies and was involved in many clubs. One of her greatest passions was riding her Harley Davidson and being a part of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. She also took pride in being a part of the Red Hat Ladies in Arizona during the many winters she and Larry spent there. She also enjoyed quilting and was involved in quilting clubs in both Arizona and Minnesota.

She is survived by her husband Larry, of 60 years; daughter Julie Van Guilder (Mark Jones), son Steven (Jackie) Van Guilder, daughter Lisa (Greg) Miller; grandchildren Molly Duncan, Hillary (Jackson) Meeker, Amy (Khalil) Webb, Jacob Van Guilder, Benjamin (Alison) Haberman, Harlie, Emelia, and Houston Miller, and Noah Haberman; great-grandchildren Jackson Connor Meeker, Van, Livette, and Wren Webb, Samuel Ben Avraham, Lucy and Aria Haberman; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Frieda Krupp, in-laws George and Jean Van Guilder, daughter Amy Lyn Van Guilder, baby Van Guilder (grandchild), and brother-in-law Fahey Law.

The family asks that any memorials be donated in Shirley’s memory to Cherry Valley Cemetery where Shirley will be laid to rest.
