Selma Louise “Sammy” Voth Albers, age 96 of Red Wing and formerly of Goodhue, met her Savior on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at her home at St. Crispins Living Community in Red Wing.

Selma Louise was born on October 14, 1924 in Holt, MN, the daughter of William F. and Christine (Anton) Mehrkens. She was baptized on October 23, 1924 at her parent’s home and was confirmed on August 7, 1938. She attended Holt School through the 8th grade, later moved to Red Wing, MN, and worked at Red Wing Shoes.

Sammy married Elroy Lorenz Voth on April 15, 1944 and they raised eight children together. She was a 75-year active member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. She worked at Goodhue Public Schools in the kitchen, as well as Deden’s Cafe. She loved sewing and had sewn everything from clothing to wedding gowns. She enjoyed working on her flower and vegetable gardens.

Elroy died on April 1, 1990. She later married Vernon Albers on March 22, 1996 and had 15 years together before his passing on August 28, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elroy Voth and Vernon Albers; sons-in-law, Stuart Steffen, Scott Roper, and Jim Meincke; and siblings, infant Arnold Mehrkens, Emma Diercks, Lois Avery, Verla Hauschildt, Luella Peterson, and William Mehrkens, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Elaine Steffen (Robert Rausch) of Lamberton, Linette Meincke of Lake City, Marlys (Gary) Opsahl of Red Wing, Gary (Carol) Voth of Goodhue, Darlene (David) Stafford of Pine Island, Rodney (Cynthia) Voth of Goodhue, Janelle Nordine of Hastings, and Renee Roper of Red Wing; 22 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Carol Anderson of St. Charles, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

For everyone’s safety and health, wearing masks and social distancing will be required. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11 from 9 – 11 am at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 36620 Co 4 Blvd, Goodhue. A private family funeral service will follow at 11 am. Interment will be at the church cemetery. The service will be live-streamed at 11 am, and the link is shown below. The recording of the service and burial will be available here on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in her memory.

Pallbearers will be Craig Steffen, Darren Opsahl, Troy Voth, Shawn Stafford, Justin Voth, Michael Nordine, and Joshua Roper.
