Sara Ann Churchill was born on July 16, 2011 and died at home with her family on Monday morning, January 16, 2012. Sara was born with a genetic mitochondrial disorder, and given only days to live. Through God's grace, she blessed our lives for exactly six months. Our family is so very thankful for all the love, support, and blessings we have been shown in so many ways. Having Sara as our daughter has been one of the hardest and most wonderful things that has ever happened to us. She was Love in so many ways; teaching us about the Love of God, seeding, deepening, reconciling relationships, and showing us that one can love even when one will have to let go. And we'll all have to let go. And it's ok. Sara's last few months have been wonderful. We prayed that she'd no longer need supplemental oxygen, and a couple weeks later, she didn't. We prayed that the reflux that made her miserable would be lessened, and it went away. She's been comfortable and happy, smiling and laughing. In November, we were able to take her on a family trip to Florida, where she saw - and loved - the ocean, went to Disney World, and had a plane ride. In December, she was able to experience Christmas, even getting excited about the presents and crinkly paper. About a week ago she began to get very tired, eating less, and starting to pull away from us a bit. Early Monday morning we couldn't wake her. She spent the morning in the arms of her family, surrounded by singing and love. She died in our arms, comfortable and peaceful. We are all sad. There is a big empty spot in our hearts and our home. But we know this sadness is for ourselves, because Sara is safe and enveloped in Love. As her sister Gracie said, "It's a tragedy for us, but a triumph for Sara." Sara is survived by her father Todd, mother Dee, brother Will (9), sisters Kate (12), Siri (6), Grace (4), Emily (3) and Hanna (3), and many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who dearly loved her. Sara's body will be cremated so we can spread her ashes at home. We will be hosting an open house at our home (36001-63rd Ave Way) this Saturday, January 21 from 10-5. We would love to see you there. Our children are excited about providing animals for families in Africa through World Vision, and we request that any memorials for Sara be made to World Vision in her name.
