Russell Miller, age 77, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday morning, April 26, 2007 at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings.
Russell was born on November 10, 1929 in St. Paul, the son of Albert R. and Ethel (Manska) Miller. He attended school in Cannon Falls, and went to work in 1944 with the Chicago-Great Western Railroad, where he continued until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Railroad Union during that time.
Russell married Janice Truair in 1950, and they later divorced.
He served with the US Army from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1951.
He married Muriel Hermanson in 1955. She died in May, 1978.
Russell and Kathryn P. Larson married in 1979. He loved gardening, hunting, and dancing. He also loved fishing, and most enjoyed his trips to Mille Lacs. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, and was a life member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452. In his younger years, he had played softball with the VFW team. He was also a member of the Oxford Sportsman's Club, and was a staunch Democrat!
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn "Kate" of Cannon Falls; children, Fred (Sharon) Miller, Duane (Cheryl) Hermanson and Randy (Barb) Miller, all of Cannon Falls, Marilyn (Tom) Falk of Blooming Prairie, Jim Larson and Dennis Larson, both of Cannon Falls, Gail (Terry) Wichser of Sterling, CO and Merlyn (Deb) Larson of Lakeville; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Marlys (Jack) Weber and brother, Edward (Donna) Miller, all of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Frank Miller (in 1959 at age 15) and Gerald Larson; his wives, Janice and Muriel; and granddaughter, Kari Falk.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Kari Williamson officiating.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.
Interment with military honors will be held on Friday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
Active pallbearers will be Frank, Ferlin and Brian Miller, Curtis Hermanson, Jim and Dennis Larson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452.
