Russel C. Clevenger, age 51, of Cannon Falls, MN, passed away suddenly January 3, 2009.
Russ was born February 4, 1957, the son of Dayton and Beverly (Hocking) Clevenger in Shelby, Michigan. He attended school in Clarence-Lowden, Iowa and was a graduate of Clarence-Lowden High School with the class of 1976. He continued his education at Iowa State and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. Upon graduation from Iowa State, Russ moved to Red Wing, MN and started working for Midland Cooperative, he later worked for Farmers Elevator/ AG Partners and in 2004 began working for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans as a financial advisor. Russ married Dawn Klein on April 3, 1982 in Lake City, MN. He was an active member of Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church where he had been chairman of the call committee, was the church treasurer and on the cemetery board. He had also been treasurer for the CCIC. He was on the Goodhue County REA Board and was a member of the Warsaw planning commission. He was also a member of the Wanamingo Sportsman’s Club. Russ volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Builds. Russ enjoyed golfing, camping and volunteering, but his greatest past time was spending time with his family and friends.
Russ is lovingly survived by his wife Dawn of Cannon Falls, MN; son Dayton of Denver, CO; a granddaughter Eden Marie Nunn-Clevenger of Denver, CO; his siblings Rose (Jody) West of Sandusky, OH; Ruth (Colin) Burns of Casper, WY, Rita (Don) Drager of Tipton, IA and Roger (Mary) Clevenger of Colorado Springs, CO; also by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be 11 am Saturday January 10, 2009 at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls, MN with Pastor Joy Gonnerman officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm in the St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls with a 7 pm prayer service and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Wangen Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Cannon Falls, MN. Casketbearers will be Les Anderson, Rick Anderson, Dave Pearson, Steve Lindstrom, Brian Hale, Steve Gustafson, Dan Meyer and Mike Adler. Honorary casketbearers will be Russ’ nieces and nephews.
