Roger William Lundell, age 74 of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday afternoon, August 4, 2010 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Roger was born on May 7, 1936 in Cannon Falls, the son of Elmer H. and Gladys I. (Danielson) Lundell. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1954 and later served in the Army Reserve.
Roger worked for Minnesota Malting, Anchor Paper Company, Riedell Shoes and was Building Manager for the Rossmor Building in downtown St. Paul, MN as his last position for many years.
Roger was quite musical and played the tuba in the Cannon Falls band. He also was very artistic and did several paintings as well as sculpting. He and his wife won a prize during the winter carnival one year for an ice sculpting they did of a very large cardinal made out of snow and ice. It was painted bright red and was quite beautiful. He wrote poetry for many years and entertained his family with a lot of his work. Roger was an avid scrabble player and those who played with him sometimes referred to themselves as victims. He loved watching the Twins. He read one book after another while at the Care Center and enjoyed taking his scooter to the library to return his books and get a few more. Roger was a joke teller and many times a staff member would be stopped in the halls and he would say, "Did you hear about the?"
Prior to his illness he owned a house boat called "Anchors Aweigh" and he and his dog, Chelsea spent a lot of time going up and down the St. Croix River. Roger enjoyed taking family members on his house boat, especially his daughter and grand children.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Lori Phipps (Don) of Shakopee; 5 grandchildren, Jenie Lundell, Jesse Felderman, Kassidi Felderman, Kelsey Phipps, Dustin Schule; great granddaughter, Taylor May Donatell; sister, Joanne Farrier of Cannon Falls; brother, David (Ruth) Lundell of Rosemount; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Llewellyn "Lou" Lundell; infant twin sisters, Martha Faye and Murvel Faith; and brother-in-law, William "Bill" Farrier.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Carol Sinykin officiating.
