Roger A. Gird

Roger Gird, age 82, of Goodhue, died on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at his farm, surrounded by his family.

Roger Allen Gird was born on June 19, 1942, in Tulsa, OK, the son of Robert and Loyce (Bode) Gird. He grew up and went all through school in Tulsa. Roger graduated from Oklahoma State University with an Electrical Engineering degree. In 1966 Roger accepted a position with Control Data, working in the Aerospace division, and moved to Chanhassen, MN. Roger was married to Karen Tutewohl Sommers in 1980 at the Methodist church in Red Wing. They made their home in rural Goodhue. He was a member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church and, then Wangen Prairie Lutheran. Roger was a member of The NRA and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time on his farm. Most of all, Roger enjoyed time spent with family, and attending his grandchildren’s sports and activities.

Survivors include his wife Karen, children Troy (Tess) Sommers, Shane Sommers, Stacie (Dave) Maloney, Robyn Chapman, and Ryan (Jessica) Gird; grandchildren Josh, Nate, Mandi, Chad, Bryce, Lindsay, Kaylynn, Carter, Madeline, Carrie, Dylan, and Mason; and nine great-grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Loyce, his grandson Taylor, great-grandson Dawson, and brother Robert.

Memorials are suggested to Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, 34289 Co. 24 Blvd, Cannon Falls, MN 55009.
