Robert Adrian Westberg, age 94, a resident of the Northridge View in Kenyon and formerly of Cannon Falls, Minneapolis and Long Beach, CA, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his residence.
Robert was born on October 21, 1915 in Bellingham, WA, the son of August and Jenny (Nylander) Westberg. He attended schools in Minneapolis and Milaca, MN, and graduated from Milaca High School in 1932. He worked a number of years for Olson’s General Store in Milaca, where he met his future wife. He married Bessie Rindels on October 10, 1939 in Pease, MN.
Robert served with the US Army during WWII, being honorably discharged in 1945. For most of his working years, he was employed with the US Postal Service, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Postal Union.
He was a member of Our Saviour’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. He loved traveling, especially by train or car, and instilled in his children an appreciation for travel, enjoying God’s marvelous creation.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 57 years, Bessie on March 29, 1997; daughter, Evelyn Schroeder; grandson, Daniel Schroeder; and brother, Vernon (Helen) Westberg.
He is survived by his children, Eileen (Bob) Perry of San Diego, CA, Elizabeth (Bob) Wilderman of Seal Beach, CA, Roberta (Shirzad) Aghazadeh of Burbank, CA, Marilyn (Ron) Banks of Cannon Falls, David (Karen) Westberg of Torrance, CA and Dennis (Gail) Westberg of San Luis Obispo, CA; son-in-law, John Schroeder of Laguna Woods, CA; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Dahl and brother-in-law, Frank Kuperus, both of Milaca.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Tim Banks and Pastor Don Bakken officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home, and at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Mike Schroeder, Chris Perry, Craig, Mark and Paul Wilderman, Todd Aghazadeh, Hal Bond, Kerry and Mitch Banks, Mac Stevens, Andy Westberg, Brent Galasso, David Westberg and Nathan Prince.
