Robert Elwood Boe, age 67 of Vasa, died Friday morning, November 30, 2007. Following an eleven-year battle with cancer, he was currently being cared for at the Margaret S. Parmly Residence in Chisago City, MN, where they were managing his pain in the final stages of prostate cancer.
Bob was born on June 6, 1940 in Dawson, MN, the son of Richard and Mae (Thompson) Boe. He graduated from Dawson High School in 1958 and went on to serve with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. After his honorable discharge, he returned to work for American Fruit and Produce in Eagan.
He married Dora K. Hetletvedt on October 9, 1971 in West Concord.
During the 1970's and 80's, Bob was the manager for the American Legion Post #54 in Red Wing. He was a former member of the Goodhue County Sheriff's Posse and the MN State Sheriff's Posse Association, and had served as president in both associations.
He later worked for Treasure Island Resort and Casino as the food and beverage comptroller, until an early retirement due to illness.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed his fly-in fishing trips to Canada with his family, spending time with the grandkids, and reading.
Bob was a member of the Vasa Lutheran Church. He was also a longstanding member of the MN Paint Horse Association, formerly serving as president and on the board of directors. He was also a longstanding member of the American Paint Horse Association. He enjoyed breeding, selling and showing his horses.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dora; his children, Scott of Vasa, and Heather (Kris) Scott of Harris, MN; three grandsons, Brett, Nate and Kaden; sister, Marcella (Lewis) Beck of New Hope; brothers, Lloyd (Virginia) of St. Louis Park, Marvin (Donna) of Bemidji, Donald of Dawson, and Curtis of Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mae Boe.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 4, at 1:00 p.m. at the Vasa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Dobbins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3, from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Active pallbearers will be David Tucci, David Way, Duane Ebbighausen, Michael Boe, Rick Boe and Rick Olander. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brett, Nate and Kaden.
