Robert Horace Bedard, age 85 of Hampton, MN died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Robert "Bob" was born on July 25, 1930 in Minneapolis, the son of Horace and Rose (Williams) Bedard. He graduated from South High School, Minneapolis in 1948 and later was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. He served in the 7th Cavalry Regiment during the Korean Conflict, was wounded three times, and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Vivian A. Knott on October 26, 1957 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Minneapolis. In 1969 Bob and Vivian moved their family from Burnsville to rural Hampton, where they enjoyed country living. Bob loved the outdoors and snowmobiling and became a member of the Hampton Drift Skippers Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, and raising Weimaraner hunting dogs. He also served on the Hampton Township Planning Commission. He and Vivian enjoyed square dancing club. Bob was a Machinist working for Tobin-Arp Manufacturing in Minneapolis and later Sunnen Products Inc. in St. Louis, MO. He retired in 1990. Bob loved problem solving on machines, and enjoyed the mechanics of most everything he worked on. He loved photography, reading, and watching documentary war movies. He is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Vivian Bedard; daughters, Sheri (Dan) Dowden of Goodhue, Sheila (Troy) Schifsky of Stillwater, Renee (Kent) Otte of Randolph, and Michele (Bob) Hemphill of Hampton; 11 grandsons, Taylor, Brandon, and Cameron Dowden, Colton, Carson, Chase, and Cooper Schifsky, Grant, Alec, and Kellen Otte, and Jack Hemphill; and best friend and brother-in-law, Wally Saleck of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Florence Zarth, Ceil Gronli, and Barb Saleck. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Mathias Catholic Church, 23315 Northfield Blvd, Hampton. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
