Richard John Herbert "Dick" Swanson, age 70 of Cannon Falls, died at his home at Freeborn Manor on Thursday, October 1, 2009.
Dick was born on April 26, 1939 in Minneapolis, the son of John and Virginia (Johnson) Swanson. He graduated from Edison High School, and then enlisted in the US Air Force where he was stationed in Korea. After his honorable discharge he attended Dunwoody Institute.
Dick was a sheet metal installer for various companies in the metro area. He was self-employed prior to his retirement.
During the mid 1990's, he was a resident of the Veterans Home in Hastings, and in 1999, moved to Cannon Falls.
Dick was a member of the Minneapolis Sheet Metal Union, Eagles Lodge in South Minneapolis, American Legion, and VFW. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, and enjoyed collecting memorabilia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughters, Terri Swanson of Minnetonka, and Allison Swanson of Minneapolis; brothers, Douglas V.O. (Kathleen) Swanson and Thomas A.J. Swanson, all of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with Dr. Randy Taber, Lieutenant Colonel officiating.
