Richard "Dick" Ryan

Dick Ryan, age 96, of Goodhue, died on Tuesday, December 13, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester Methodist Campus.

Richard Neill “Dick” Ryan was born on November 13, 1926, in Red Wing, the son of William C. and Julia (Gorman) Ryan. He attended District 135 School through the 8^th grade, and graduated from Goodhue High School in 1944 .On January 29, 1949, Dick married Helen McCusker at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Wing. He spent his entire life living and working on the family farm in Belle Creek Township.

Dick was a lifelong member of St. Columbkill Catholic Church. He served on the Goodhue School Board, and the St. Columbkill/Holy Trinity Cemetery Board for many years. He was an active member of the Goodhue Lions Club, and a board member of the Goodhue Area Historical Society for many years. Dick enjoyed traveling, playing cards, mowing lawn in his later years, and above all, a good visit with family, friends, or even strangers.

Survivors include his children Cathy (Alan) Holm of Goodhue, Mary Jo (David) Holst of Goodhue, Rick (Janet) Ryan of Zumbrota, Ronald Ryan of Lafayette. Louisiana, Juliann Ryan of Minneapolis, and Michael (Susan) Ryan of Oronoco; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 2016, son John in 2021, his parents, and his brothers Tom and John (Billy).

Memorials are preferred to the Goodhue Area Historical Society, the St. Columbkill/Holy Trinity Cemetery Fund, or the donor’s choice.

Dick’s family would like to thank the Zumbrota Care Center for the wonderful care he received there the past 10 months.

Visitation for Dick will be on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 9:00 -11:00 am, at St. Columbkill Catholic Church, 36483 Co. 47 Blvd, Goodhue, MN 55027. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am.  Dick’s funeral will be live streamed here. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Following the service, a lunch will be served at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goodhue.
