Richard Craig "Dick" Podritz, age 57 of Randolph, died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2014 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Dick was born on February 2, 1957 in Flandreau, SD, the third son of Lawrence and Darlene (Hoisington) Podritz. His family moved from Flandreau to Garvin, MN, and then to Castle Rock Township in 1967. The family moved in to the city of Randolph in 1974, and Dick graduated from Randolph High School in 1975. He worked for local farmers until starting his employment for the fertilizer plant, now known as River Country Co-op. He has been employed there over 30 years. Dick married Denise Reinke on May 29, 1999 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. In early years, he was a member of the Randolph Lion's Club. He was a retired 33 year member of the Randolph Fire Department, and served as assistant chief. He was a member of the Randolph City Council, and formerly served as mayor for 14 years. Dick will be remembered most for his love of the 4-F's; family, fire department, fishing and fertilizer… and not necessarily in that order. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Darlene; brother, Dennis; and father-in-law, Red Reinke. He is survived by his wife, Denise; brothers, Lawrence Jr. "Larry" of Woodbury, Kim (Linda) of Inver Grove Heights, and Quin (Lisa) of Randolph; 13 nieces and nephews and 5 great-nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Joan Reinke of So. St. Paul; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terese (Ken) Glenn and Richard (Barb) Reinke; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton (23315 Northfield Blvd), with Father Stan Mader officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery near Randolph. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls (5839 Hwy 19 Blvd). There will also be visitation at the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Active pallbearers will be nephews, Jason, Trent, Ryan, Ethan and Brandon Podritz, Justin Reinke, Jason and Thomas Glenn.
