Renay T. Olson, age 87 of Northfield and formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Friday afternoon, June 13, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Renay was born on August 22, 1920 in White Rock, the daughter of E.T. Swenson and Ellen (Clauson) Swenson. She graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1938, and was looking forward to their 70 year class reunion this summer.
She was a lifelong member of the Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She married LuVerne A. Olson on June 25, 1941. Renay was active in the Willing Workers and sewing circle at church. They farmed in Leon Township, and Renay was active in helping in the home and outside with fieldwork. She was often bringing meals out to her boys in the field!
They enjoyed traveling through all fifty states, and spending many years in Arizona with her husband, LuVerne. She loved bowling, golfing, playing cards, reading, sewing, crocheting, and visiting with family and friends. She will be remembered most for her love of family!
Renay and LuVerne were married 66 years, when he died on November 6, 2007. Their family was dealt another difficult blow when their great-granddaughter, Nicole Schaut died two weeks later on November 23. She is also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, and brother, Wallace Swenson.
She is survived by her four sons, David (Patricia), Larry (Carol) and John (Janice), all of Cannon Falls, and Paul (Mary) of Apple Valley; twelve grandchildren, Kerry (Linda) Olson, Kim (Dan) Alstrup, Kristi (Mark) Schaut, Robyn (Paul) Berg, Tricia, Jay (Heidi), Jeremy, Joshua, Bjorn (Anna), Ian, Thomas (Anngenette) and Jamie Olson; ten great-grandchildren, Shaun Giles-Olson, Peggy (Scott) Beers, Zachary and Alyssa Mustful, Jonathon and Kristine Alstrup, Emile Schaut, Randy, Marlee and Parker Berg; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alexandra and Joey Beers. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Diercks of Red Wing; and sisters-in-law, Ora Swenson of Zumbrota and Idella Clauson of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Vic Blastervold of Cannon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastor Diane Goulson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m.
Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Kerry, Bjorn, Ian, Jay, Jeremy, Joshua and Thomas Olson. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Kim Alstrup, Kristi Schaut, Robyn Berg, Tricia Olson and Jamie Olson.
