Orvin Kappedahl

June 24, 1941 — March 30, 2020

Randolph Township

Orvin C. Kappedahl, 78 years old, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 30, 2020.

Orvin was born and grew up in rural Stanton, son of Carl O. and Inga (Pederson) Kappedahl. He attended country school in High Prairie, graduating from Cannon Falls High School in 1958. He met his sweetheart, Sharon Neseth, in Kenyon, and they were married on July 15, 1961 at Grace Lutheran Church in Nerstrand. Orvin loved his wife and family. He showed his love by working tirelessly, with a servant heart, helping with home, auto, and equipment repairs for family, friends, and customers. He was dependable, loyal, and fiercely independent. "Orv" was self-employed in dairy sales and service, refrigeration, air conditioning, and water softeners. He was creative and skilled in designing new, improved ways to make things work. He was meticulous at welding. He enjoyed reading Louis Lamour books and watching western movies. Orv and Sharon loved listening and playing bluegrass music together. Orv played both harmonica and guitar. They met for local music jams regularly. Orv and Sharon had a daily cribbage match. Orv liked to work on restoring his dad's tractor and recently helped to build a model train with the Rice County Steam and Gas Engine Association.  Orv was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon and their four children, Clay (Mina) Kappedahl, Lynn (Kerry) Quam, Jodi Kappedahl, and Melissa (Jed) Post.  Their eleven grandchildren, Sam and Noelle Kappedahl, Austin, Layne, and Jenae Quam, Cayden, Levi, Rylan, Asher, Leona, and Walton Post will remember their grandfather as a good man and a best friend. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl and Inga Kappedahl, his two sisters, Eileen (Chuck) Muckey and Darlene (Larry) Pabst, infant brother Alden, and several nieces and nephews. He will be buried in a private ceremony. A separate memorial service will be held at a later date.
