Orlando Norstad, Sr
March 19, 1916 — November 4, 2007
Orlando was born on March 19, 1916 in Zumbrota, the son of Oscar Cornelius and Rachel Josephine (Greseth) Norstad. He attended country school in Zumbrota.
Orlando married Edna Marie Paul on October 14, 1938 at the Vasa Chapel. They farmed for 55 years, starting in Cannon Falls Township, and later in Skunk Hollow (Leon Township). Along with working his own farm, he did custom farm work for area farmers. He raised and trained quarter horses, and had been active in the Ridge Riders Saddle Club for many years. Upon retiring, they moved off the farm and settled in Cannon Falls in 1995. In retirement, he enjoyed camping and fishing.
He was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, and was formerly a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo.
His strong faith in the Lord offered him many blessings in life; the greatest was his wife and family.
After nearly 65 years of marriage, his wife Edna died on July 22, 2003. Orlando was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Myrtle (Gifford) Holmes, Ruth (Conroe) Erickson, Marilyn (Sam) Beighley, Evelyn (Harold) Kvale and Luella (Algot) Strom; and brothers, Victor and Emory Norstad.
He is survived by his nine children, RoseAnn (James) Lindsey of Ocean Shores, WA, Orlando Jr. (Kathy) of St. Cloud, Gary (Mary) of Dodge Center, Jim (Bonnie) of Rushford, Bob (Martha) of Lanesboro, Steve (Linda) and Jarle (Debra), all of Cannon Falls, Kristi (Bob) Fuller of Portland, OR and Deb Norstad (Gregg Ramstrom) of Cannon Falls; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Hanson of Stewartville; sisters-in-law, Marie Norstad of Randolph and Selma Tolzman of The Villages, FL; brother-in-law, Edwin (Lorraine) Paul of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Tim, Greg, Jeffrey, Justin, Paul and Matthew Norstad. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Randy Paulson, Jennifer O'Donnell, Pam Andrieu, Sheri Brown, Sandra Dearen, Eric Norstad, Jim Norstad, Dawn Epps, Michelle Cook, Kelly Jahnke, Stephanie Scheffler, Barbara Norstad, Nicole Norstad, Lindsay Reid, Samantha and Alyssa Fuller.
Memorials are preferred to donor's choice. The family's preferences are gifts to the Cannon Falls Food Shelf and the Good Samaritan Fund in his memory.
