Norma Diercks

Norma E. Diercks, 92, of Goodhue, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Augustana Health Care Center in Apple Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Goodhue with the Reverend Randall Kuznicki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Goodhue. Friends may call from 12:30 until service time, Wednesday, at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.

Norma E. Diercks was born October 7, 1917 in White Rock, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Ellen (Clauson) Swenson. She was raised and educated in White Rock and Cannon Falls, graduating from Cannon Falls High School and later attended normal training for teachers. She was a rural school teacher for six years. She was united in marriage to LeVerne P. Diercks on December 30, 1941 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Goodhue where she raised her family and worked as a teachers assistant in the Goodhue School District until joining her husband in operating Diercks Store. They retired in 1981. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the church choir and Ladies Aide and taught, Sunday School for several years. She was active in several women’s clubs including: Study Club, Women’s Auxiliary and Sewing Club.

Norma is survived by her daughters; Lynne (Mark) Lind of Burnsville and Debra (Kim) Sjogren of New Ulm, five grandchildren; Eric (Teresa) Lind, Matthew (Ann) Lind, Stephen Lind, Sarah (Greg) Leslie and Meghan Sjogren, 3 great-grandchildren; Anders, Tia and Bjorn Lind, her brother-in-law, Robert Diercks of Minneapolis, and her sisters-in-law, Ora Swenson of Zumbrota and Fran Diercks of Waterloo, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeVerne in 1989, daughter, Mary Ellen, great-grandson, Haakon Lind, her brother, Wallace and sister, Renay.
