Nels Nelson

Nels E. Nelson, 86 of Cannon Falls, passed away, Saturday morning, October 24, 2009 at the Angels Care Center following declining health.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30289 59th Avenue Way, Cannon Falls, with the Reverend Donald Hochmuth, officiating. Burial will be in Cannon Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 until the time of the service, Tuesday at church.
Nels Edvin Nelson was born September 23, 1923, the son of Emil Sven and Sigrid Matilla Nelson. He served the United States WWII as a teletype operator in the Army Signal Corp. After his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Erna Seel on December 1, 1948. Nels farmed 11 years in Iowa before moving to Minnesota in 1959 and purchasing his own farm near Cannon Falls. He retired from farming in 1989, but he and his wife, Erna continued to make their home on the farm. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cannon Falls.
Nels is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erna, nine children; Paul (Caryl) Nelson of Jackson, Marcia (Dennis) Reps of Utica, Jill (Joe) Dion of Zumbrota, Lyle (Marjorie) Nelson of Jackson, Kay (Dan) Bahr of Byron, Diane (Brian) Helgren of Cannon Falls, Janet (Harry) Chromy of Mankato, Brian (Jeanette) Nelson of Wanamingo and Mark (Faith) Nelson of Cannon Falls, also 29 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, his sister and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary, granddaughter, Angela, 2 brothers and one sister.
Mr. Nelson’s casketbearers are his grandsons; Paul Nelson Jr., Josh Nelson, Travis Reps, Aaron Clary, Matt Loken, Brad Loken, Luke Nelson, Brent Helgren, Jason Helgren, Nathan Bahr & Tristan Nelson.
