Myron O. "Mike" Johnson, age 74, of Cannon Falls died peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Judy's arms at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Mike was born on May 22nd, 1933 the son of Norman and Gladys (Pestrud) Johnson in Devils Lake, N.D. He attended school in Eastedge, N.D. and was a 1951 graduate of Enderlin High School, N.D. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN until his father died in 1952. He then returned to Valley City and graduated from Valley City State University. He began his teaching career in Sarles, N.D., then in Erskine, MN before coming to Cannon Falls in 1964.
He taught music, art and business, and directed numerous choirs. He was the director of the Cannon Falls Men's Chorus. He was the choir director and was on the church council at St. Ansgar's. He enjoyed singing with the Augsburg Centennial Singers. He was teacher of the year at Cannon Falls High School and finalist for the state of MN. He retired from Cannon Falls High School in 1995. He mentored many people. Mike was a Jaycee (past president) as well as involved in the Lion's Club. He spent many summers painting and doing light construction.
Mike married Judith Lang from St. Paul in 1975. Together they enjoyed raising their children.
Mike's strong faith, loving family and supportive friends sustained him as he coped with myelodysplasia, he never gave up.
He loved music, hunting, fishing, wood carving, photography, ballroom dancing, nature and time at the cabin. Judy and Mike enjoyed traveling together, especially their trip to Norway and many trips to the North Shore.
Mike will always be remembered for his bright outlook, positive attitude, keen sense of humor, ability to bring out the best in others, creativity, gentle spirit and genuine love of life. He truly lived life to the fullest and will be missed by many.
He is preceded in death by parents, Norman and Gladys; and brother, Allan.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; children, Greg (Kim)Johnson, Amy (Mark) Dull, Lynn (Dan) Simonson, Susan (Stuart) Samuelson, Patricia (Gary) Skroch, and David (Sarah) Schwietz; 13 grandchildren; and sister, Katherine (Warren) Schulz.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Gary Schulz officiating.
Visitation will be held AT THE CHURCH on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
Memorials are preferred.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Johnson, David Schwietz, Dan Simonson, Stuart Samuelson, Gary Skroch, Brandon Simonson and Aaron Simonson.
