Also known as "Mike" or "Cowboy Mike", Michael James Growette Jr., age 47 of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Mike was born on August 18, 1967 in Fridley, MN, the son of Michael Sr. and Geraldine (Raboin) Growette. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1986 and attended University of UM-Duluth for three years. He married his high school sweetheart, Jessica A. Lorentz on July 15, 1989 at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. Mike had many passions. He has been involved with Special Olympics since high school. He loved kids to adults, and treated everyone with respect. He was a Cannon Falls School bus driver for several years, and was a driver for Hiawatha Bus Transit. He was an avid member of the Goodhue County Mounted Posse, and was proud to carry the American flag. He enjoyed deer hunting at the family "hunting shack", and fishing with his friend, Dean at the family cabin on Big Sandy Lake. He loved animals, especially his dogs and horses. Mike will be remembered most as a man with a dedicated heart in whatever he did. He loved his family and enjoyed helping others. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jessica; children, Erika (Trevor) Schmitt of Manhattan, KS and Michael James Growette III of Minneapolis; parents, Mike and Gerri Growette of Cannon Falls; parents-in-law, Jim and Linda Lorentz of Cannon Falls; grandparents, Jim and Virginia Leen of International Falls and Donna Freeberg of Cannon Falls; sister, Brenda (Darryl) Schmitt of Rosemount; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jenny (Steve) Hildebrandt of Cannon Falls, Mitch (Olivia) Lorentz of IL, Aaron (Bridget) Lorentz of Lakeville, and Andy (Damara) Lorentz of Hawaii; and nephews and nieces, Corey Schmitt, Alex Growette, Tony Schmitt, Demetre Growette, Megan Schmitt, Diana (Joe) Seeman, Logan Hildebrandt, Jeremiah Lorentz, Gage Hildebrandt, Piper Lorentz, Ellis Lorentz, Cruz Lorentz and Che Lorentz. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Kathleen and Joseph Growette, Sr.; great-grandparents, Oscar and Stella Anderson; and uncle, Joseph Growette, Jr. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday evening, November 12 at 8:00 p.m., with visitation from 6-8 p.m., at the Cannon Falls Elementary School gymnasium. Active pallbearers will be Corey Schmitt, Alex Growette, Tony Schmitt, Demetre Growette, Megan Schmitt, Logan Hildebrandt, Jeremiah Lorentz, Gage Hildebrandt, Piper Lorentz, and Cruz Lorentz. Memorials are preferred to Special Olympics.
