Michael John Banitt, age 58, of Cannon Falls, died following a lengthy illness on Sunday morning, August 24, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Mike was born on September 15, 1949 in Red Wing, the son of Donald and Adeline (Groth) Banitt. He grew up in the Belle Creek area and graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1967.
He married Janice Campfield on July 5, 1969 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He was active in the DFL until his health made it difficult. He also enjoyed gardening and yard work. He loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by them!
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janice; two daughters, Jessica (Jason) Banitt-Moore of Rosemount and Melanie (Ryan Harmsen) Banitt of Carver; five grandchildren, Devin (13), Malyn (8) and Zaden (6) Banitt-Moore, Nathaniel (6) and Kennedy (5 months) Harmsen; sisters and brothers, Carol Mitchener of Red Wing, Howard (Judy) Banitt of Cannon Falls, Jerry (Marjorie) Banitt of Welch, Richard (Fay) Banitt of Sandy Valley, NV, Mary (Ismael) Toledo of Hastings, and Jeffrey (Sheri) Banitt of Cannon Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Theodore; and brother-in-law, Arvil Mitchener.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Christopher Pratt officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to the Cannon Falls Food Shelf.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Howard, Jerry, Richard and Jeffrey, and grandson, Devin Banitt-Moore.
