MayBelle (Boreen) Wallof was born on July 3, 1928, in Hibbing, Minnesota to Thore and Myrtle (Dobie) Boreen. She grew up in Duluth and Minneapolis, graduating from Edison High School in 1947. After high school, May worked at the Arion Theater where she met her future husband, Wayne Wallof, the assistant manager. May and Wayne Wallof were married on August 11, 1951, at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. Eight years later, they were blessed with one son Jeffrey.
May worked in the banking industry for her entire life, working at the Central Northwestern Bank on Central Avenue in northeast Minneapolis for 25 years (now Wells Fargo) retiring as the Head Drive-Thru Teller. May was a member and Past Matron of Arcana Chapter #38, Order of Eastern Star in Minneapolis. May & Wayne lived in ‘nordeast’ Minneapolis and upon retiring, moved north to enjoy their days on Leech Lake’s Moonlight Bay in Walker, MN.
May & Wayne traveled to Alaska by road 3 times and traveled the U.S. extensively in their motorhome. May went to Scotland by herself and visited her grade school pen pal, Mae, after 50 years of writing letters. May loved her lake life, took care of the yard and tended to her flowers. She had a zest for life and was game for anything! Bowling (did a 600 once) fishing, boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling, partying, water-crafting, 4-wheeling in her 80’s, and rode with Jeff on his Harley Davidson motorcycle for her 90th birthday! Being a breast cancer survivor, May & Jeff went to Togwotee, WY and at the age of 83, rode snowmobile in the Pink Ribbon Riders Snowmobile Fundraiser. She was the oldest rider!
She was the best cookie baker, was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework. She had a saying or a song or ‘ditty’ for everything! She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, the Hope Quilters and a member of the Red Hatters in Walker.
May passed away April 29, 2024, at the Cannon Rivers Senior Campus in Cannon Falls, MN.
May is survived by her devoted son, Jeffrey, and wife Dorry, of Cannon Falls, MN, many wonderful friends, and Gramma May to many! May is preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Wallof of 51 years; her only brother Howard, her parents Thore and Mrytle, and brothers-in-law, Arthur, and John.
