Mary Jane (Slininger) Wilcox of Cannon Falls passed away on November 19, 2011 in Northfield. She worked for two years to control a surprise bout with a non-smokers lung cancer, but, eventually, it got the upper hand. Mary was born in Eau Claire, WI on July 23, 1946 to Lee and Helen Slininger and lived in Wisconsin until shortly after her marriage to Dennis Wilcox in 1966. Mary and Dennis were the proud parents of the six 'Wilcox Girls' and raised their daughters in Cannon Falls before watching them go off to wander the world. Mary worked for several years at the nursing home, and then with the home health department of the Cannon Hospital until she retired. She was an avid supporter of everything local, including the school, library, businesses, post office, community events, and parks. She was an active member of the library book club, she attended nearly every school event her children and grandchildren, or their friends, were in. She volunteered for book buddies, keeping up with her book buddy until she graduated so many years later, and was active in her church, St. Pius V. Her favorite park to take her grandchildren to was the duck park, and their other favorite haunts included Subway, the bakery, and the pool. She attended many community events, never missing Deck the Falls and the Fourth of July festivities. Despite her Minnesota connections, she remained a die-hard Packer fan even if they were playing the Vikings. It should be noted that she disliked eating peas and only tolerated snow. She liked walking, traveling, reading books, and she collected owls of all kinds. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends, including; husband Dennis; her children and their families - Julie and Chr's Phelps, Hannah, Elizabeth and Shannon; Susan Wilcox; Karen and Dave Beacham, Alan and Robert; Lisa and Steve Erhardt, Sydney and Katie; Holly and Ted Hurdle, Mary Ruth; Nancy and Jesse Fox, Kelsie (and baby boy due in February); her brother Gordy and Rene' Slininger; and sister Kay and Jerry Karlan. She had many other in-laws, nieces and nephews who will always remember Mary as the sender of the cards filled with confetti. She also will be missed by close friends; Carol Nelson, Marge Krause, Jean Mercier, Kathy Garner, Clara Samuelson, Lisa Otterness, Judy Conway, the Cleghorn Girls, and many more too numerous to mention. She was preceeded in death by her parents, a younger infant sister Cynthia, and her older brother Bob. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at Lundberg Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to service at church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 23 at St. Pius V church in Cannon Falls. She has been very appreciative of her recent care and attention from Northfield Oncology and Northfield Hospice and Reflections, Dr. Votel, Meals on Wheels, Scofield Drug, Joe and the construction crew working on Minnesota Street who kept a lane open, and many friends. Memorials to the library are preferred in lieu of flowers at Mary's request. Arrangements by Lundberg Funeral Home
