Mary Tolmie

Mary (Rose Ann Benson) Tolmie, age 81 of Cannon Falls, died on Sunday evening, October 18, 2009 at the Cannon Falls Medical Center after several years of poor health. For 3 years she has been a resident of the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Mary was born in Cannon Falls on March 20, 1928, the daughter of Abner and Rozella (Anderson) Benson. Mary graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1946, and then obtained a 3 year Registered Nurse degree from Eitel Hospital in Minneapolis. Her nursing years were spent at St. Mary's Hospital and the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis.
On January 31, 1953, Robert Tolmie and Mary were married in "The Little Brown Church" in Iowa. They moved to a small hobby farm in Randolph in 1962, where they enjoyed horses and Bob continued his semi truck driving. They moved to Cannon Falls in 1997. Mary liked reading, knitting, and listening to the radio.
She is survived by her only sister, Darlene (Benson) Thorud and her husband Richard of Bloomington; special nephew Michael Thorud and his wife Susan and their children, Sarah and Benjamin of Chanhassen; special niece Jodi Holm and her husband David and their children Kelly and Renee of Hudson, WI; Dylan Sharratt of Houston TX, son of the late special niece Lori Thorud; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Tolmie on November 21, 2003; her parents; special niece Lori Thorud in 2001; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A private burial service will be held at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
