Mary Hoffman

Mary Louise (Lorentz) Hoffman, age 88 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at her home at Twin Rivers Senior Campus on Monday morning, November 9, 2015. Mary was born on April 28, 1927 in Douglas Township, Dakota County, MN, the daughter of Frank and Mathilda (Schaffer) Lorentz. She graduated from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault and taught country school in White Rock, Rosemount and Vermillion. She married Carl F. Hoffman on June 27, 1950 at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. They made their home in Cannon Falls where they raised their children. Mary later taught elementary school in Hastings and Miesville.

In 1999 Mary was recognized with the award of Country Teacher of the Year at the Dakota County Fair. She was an active member of St. Pius V Catholic Church and volunteered for many years at the Cannon Valley Fair. She enjoyed operating Marys' Yarn and Crafts in Cannon Falls with her sister-in-law Mary Lorentz. She enjoyed gardening, quilt making and various crafts. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl on May 30, 2002; brothers, Nicholas, Joseph, Jerome, Francis, and Peter Lorentz, and sisters, Sr. Mary Bona Lorentz and Anne Freeberg. She is survived by her children, Susan (Jerry) Diercks of Red Wing, Larry (Gerri) Hoffman of Cannon Falls, and Karla (Audie) Ramy of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren, Jeff (Jill) Diercks, Kim (Tony Fitzgerald) Frazier, Sara (Geraud) Banitt, Gretchen (Jason) Ospina, Sheryl (Jeff) Stellrecht, Kevin (fiancé Melinda Rahlfs) Hoffman, Julie (Doug) Stebbins, Brenda (Rod) Woody, Terri (Scott) Crabtree, Rachael Ramy, Tom (Brenna) Ramy and Joe E. (friend Brian Belandorf) Ramy; 20 great-grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Katie, Tyler (Becky), Matthew, Brooke, Preston, Braeden, Rylan, Bristol, Spencer (Karli), Quentin, Isabella, Michaela, Alex, Madeline, Sarah, Owen, Tessa and Ethan; 1 great-great-grandchild, Aurora; brother, Edward (Mary) Lorentz of Cannon Falls; sister-in-law, Kay Lorentz of Byron, Pearl Lorentz of St. Peter, and Mary Kay Hoffman of Hastings; special friend, Deb Nelson and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 4-7 p.m., with a rosary at 3:30 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers: Jeff Diercks, Kim Frazier, Sara Banitt, Grechen Ospina, Sheryl Stellrecht, Kevin Hoffman, Rachael Ramy, Tom Ramy and Joe E. Ramy.
