Mary Margaret Goudy, age 92 of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, October 12, 2010 at the Angels Care Center, where she has been lovingly taken care of for the past 11 years. Mary was born in Welch, MN on June 2, 1918, the daughter of Louis G. and Elizabeth (O'Rourke) Schaffer. She graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1936, and went on to Normal Teacher's Training. She married John David Goudy on December 26, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Miesville. Mary taught elementary school throughout her career, starting with teaching in rural country schools, then in Hastings, and many years at St. Mary's Catholic School in New Trier, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, where she was active in the Catholic Church Women. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years. Mary volunteered as a driver for the Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and traveling with her husband, John to Europe, Hawaii and numerous trips to various southern U.S. destinations in the winter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Elizabeth Schaffer; husband, John on August 28, 1999; and four siblings, Regina Bihner, John Schaffer, Thresa Pagel and Florence Lucking. She is survived by her three children, Willis (Jean) Goudy of Ames, IA, Dolores (Lee) Javorski of Lino Lakes and Phyllis (Tom) Myers of Rosemount; eight grandchildren, Geoff, Beth, Kate, Bridget, Peter, Andrew, Annie and Laura; and two great-grandchildren, Paige and Calvin; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay K. Kythe and Monsignor Greg Schaffer celebrating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, with VFW Auxiliary honors. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18 from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be her eight grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
