Mary Catherine Daniels was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed away on Thursday evening, October 23, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, following a long illness. She was 76 years of age.
Mary was born on May 6, 1932 in Miesville, the daughter of Francis “Frank” and Catherine (Glynn) Ryan. She graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1950. On June 9, 1956, she married Lowell “Dick” Daniels at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. They resided on the family farm in Stanton Township, where they raised their three children.
In her younger years, she worked at Kid Duds and then Mineral Springs Sanatorium until its close. She then worked at the Cannon Falls Hospital from 1976 until her retirement in 2000. Until her illness, she was an active member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, where she was involved with CCW, and taught religious education for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she served countless years on the board. She was also the chairperson for the local Bloodmobile for many years.
Mary loved to read, camp, cook and bake, watch football (her favorite teams were Notre Dame and the Vikings), and spend time with her family. She enjoyed country music and traveling, especially her trips to Branson. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dick; son, Mike (Alma) of Cannon Falls; daughters, Kathy Daniels (Steve Culbertson) of Cannon Falls and Shannon (Brian) Erickson of Holland, MI; nine grandchildren, Melissa (Jesse) Ludewig, Michaela, Patrick, Sammi, and Allie Daniels, Courtney and Stephen Johnson, and Brendan and Kendra Erickson; and two great grandchildren, Trenton and Lottie Ludewig. She also leaves behind her seven sisters and brothers, Rose Maring of Kenyon, Patrick Ryan of Inver Grove Heights, Edward Ryan of Ramsey, Ellen (Francis) Gall of Nevis, James Ryan of Cannon Falls, Theresa (Edward) Erickson of Rosemount, and Margaret Ryan of Apple Valley; and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls, with Father Jay K. Kythe celebrating.
Interment with VFW Auxiliary honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Active pallbearers will be her nephews, Bill, Tom, and Bob Ryan, Dominic Ryan, Colin Erickson and Mark Breiland.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the VFW Auxiliary.
