Marvin Alfred Broin, age 79 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully on Sunday morning, September 7, 2008 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Marvin was born July 14, 1929 in Kenyon, Minnesota. He was the son of Alfred and Anna (Kulseth) Broin. Marv graduated from Kenyon High School in 1947. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Marv was drafted in to the US Army in 1951, and was then transferred to the US Marine Corps. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon his return, he began working for Honeywell. He worked in their aerospace division until his department was closed in 1970. Marv retired in 1993, after 20 years at Mid-America Dairymen in Zumbrota.
Marvin married Donna Jean Wichser on June 19, 1954 at Berne, MN. The couple had two children, Brenda and Allen. Marv was a longtime active member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school, served on the church council, and helped on pastoral search committees.
Marvin loved to read, work puzzles and play cards. He will be remembered most for his kind, gentle manner and a welcoming smile.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna of the Presbyterian Homes, Inver Grove Heights; daughter, Brenda (John) Moravec of Inver Grove Heights; son, Allen (Jacqui) of Cannon Falls; and his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating.
Interment will follow at the Holden Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 12-1 p.m.
Memorials are preferred to the Spring Garden Lutheran Church or the chapel fund at Angels Care Center.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Anderson, Chip Callister, Doug Felton, Pat Franklin, Scott Hanson, and Gary Samuelson.
Honorary pallbearers will be his many nieces and nephews.
