Mark Olson

Mark Jergen Olson, age 59 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Prior Lake, died at his home on Saturday, April 7, 2007.



Mark was born on December 2, 1947 in Red Wing, the son of Glenn P. and Marvel V. (Kolstad) Olson. He graduated from high school in New Brighton in 1965.



He served during the Vietnam Era with the US Marine Corps from May 12, 1966 until his honorable discharge on May 11, 1968. He received two Purple Heart medals with the Presidential Unit Citation.

Mark met his future wife in Kansas City in 1971. He married Helen Faye Helton on July 29, 1981 in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Mark was a salesman throughout his life. He sold encyclopedias prior to owning his own business. From August, 1978 until his death, Mark owned Mid-Continent Auto.



They resided in Prior Lake for 25 years, and were members of the Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church. Mark built their home outside of Cannon Falls, in the beautiful countryside, and was able to enjoy living there for the past two years.

Mark enjoyed watching baseball and football, playing pool and golf, hunting and fishing, and he loved to play poker at Treasure Island Casino.



He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Helen; two daughters, Megan Ashley Olson and Sara Lynn Olson, both of Cannon Falls; step-daughter, Patty (Roy) Carmack of Iberia, MO; grandson, Gianni Gavin Rucci; sister, Diana (Russell) Cartier of Alaska; brothers, Rodney Olson of Coon Rapids and Mitchell Olson (significant other, Claudia) of Burnsville; and a niece and two nephews, Amber Sweet, Paul Cartier and Jack Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Marvel Olson.



Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m., Assembly Area #5 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
