Margaret Skillestad

July 23, 1917 — November 7, 2007

Margaret J. Skillestad, age 90 of Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday morning, November 7, 2007 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

Margaret was born on July 23, 1917 in Cannon Falls, the daughter of Gust and Hattie (Ring) Wahlberg. She attended school in Cannon Falls and upon graduation she attended college and got her teaching certificate. Margaret first taught at the top of Sogn Hill. She taught at three different schools in the Cannon Falls area. She married her husband Cliff upon his return from the war on May 24, 1946. Cliff and Margaret lived in the Twin Cities for a few years and also in Albert Lea. In 1952 they returned to Cannon Falls to raise their family. Once the children were older Margaret began working at the Cannon Falls Library. Once Cliff?s business Skillestad Electric became successful, she worked as his secretary, keeping the books and answering phone calls. In her later years she enjoyed reading and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ansgar?s Lutheran Church and the Tuesday Club.

Margaret is lovingly survived by her children Bryan (Jeanne) Skillestad of Cannon Falls, Thomas Skillestad of New York and Susan (Jeffery) Hansen of Rochester; her grandchildren Wendy (Steve) Stocker, Eric (Amy) Skillestad, Melissa and Benjamin Hansen; great grandchildren Brady, Brandon, Andrew and Courtney; her brother Art Wahlberg of Brandon, South Dakota and her sister Carroll Palrud of Northfield.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford in January of 1991, her sisters Irene Patten and Gladys Peter; also by her brothers Elmer and Merle Wahlberg.

Funeral Service for Margaret will be Saturday November. 10 at 11am at Our Savior?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls with Pastor Donald Bakken officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday in the Lundberg Funeral Home and continue at church 1 hour prior to the service Saturday. Inurnment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials preferred.
