Luella Marie McKinley, age 92, a lifelong resident of rural Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 at the Cannon Falls Medical Center.
Luella was born at home, with twin sister, Lorena, on August 28, 1916 in Cannon Falls Township, the daughter of Fritz A. and Teckla G. (Larson) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
Luella married Howard A. McKinley on December 14, 1957 at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, and they had two children. They farmed in Stanton Township on the McKinley family farm.
She was an active member of Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. Through the years, she did a lot of gardening and canning. She enjoyed her cookbooks, and loved to bake and make jams and jellies for others. She enjoyed writing and receiving letters, and nurturing her plants. She always kept busy, and enjoyed making hundreds of quilts and lap robes throughout her lifetime. In August of 2006, she and her twin sister celebrated their 90th birthday together.
Luella is survived by her son, Dale (Kathleen) McKinley of Stanton Township; her daughter, Mary (Danny) Lundell of Warsaw Township; her grandson, Kristopher Lundell of New Hope; and her granddaughter, Stacy Lundell and her husband Michael Nelson of Inver Grove Heights; sister, Marian Bergman of Minneapolis; brothers, Darrell “Andy” (Peggy) Anderson and Glenn Anderson, both of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Arthur McKinley of Cannon Falls; sister-in-law, Marian Kodelka of Prior Lake and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard on July 2, 2006; brothers, Everett, Virgil, Morris, infant Arlyn, Merle, and foster brother Darrell Widholm; and sisters, twin Lorena and infant Mae.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1-2 p.m., at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church, with Pastor Joy Gonnerman and Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment will follow at the Cherry Valley Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Cherry Valley Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Morris, Patrick, Steven, Michael, and Virgil Anderson, Dennis Husbyn, Leon and Paulette Hanson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kristopher Lundell, Stacy Lundell, and Michael Nelson.
