Lucille Helen Wennblom, age 89, a lifelong resident of the Cannon Falls area, died on Wednesday morning, September 19, 2007 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where she has been residing since June, 2006.
Lucille was born on October 29, 1917 in Leon Township, the daughter of Carl R. and Alice E. (Erickson) Freeberg. She graduated from the Cannon Falls High School, and went on to take her normal teacher's training in Winona. She taught in rural schools in the Cannon Falls area.
She married Bertle W. Wennblom on November 28, 1954 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. They farmed east of Cannon Falls until retiring, and then moved in to Cannon Falls. Bertle died on June 7, 1979.
Lucille was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, and also enjoyed volunteering in the community. She enjoyed visiting as she drove people to their scheduled appointments. She had also worked at Dabelow's, where she worked at the front desk and was a driver. In her younger years, she loved to travel!
Lucille will be remembered for her welcoming smile, her love of visiting with family and friends, and her love of family history.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Alice Freeberg; her brother, Glenn "Bud" Freeberg; and her husband, Bertle.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Millie Freeberg of Red Wing; and many loving extended family members of the Merlyn Swanson family, Carl Swanson family, Irvin Freeberg family, Ellis Freeberg family, Carolyn Kunde family, and Rosemary Lundell-Pagel family.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation from 1-2 p.m., at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Todd, Scott, and Doug Swanson, John Nelson, Stan Lundell and Gary Samuelson.
