Lucile Swenson

Lucile Swenson, age 95, of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at her home at The View in Cannon Falls on Sunday afternoon, October 9. Lucile was born on November 13, 1915, on her family's farm, where her father was born, in Leon Township near Wastedo. Her parents were Philip G. and Mathilda (Follingstad) Johnson. Since a youngster, Lucile spoke fluent Swedish and enjoyed learning the customs of her grandfather's native land. She attended the Swedish Mission Church on County Road 9. When she was six years old, her family began attending Spring Garden Lutheran Church, where she was later confirmed. Lucile took teacher's training after high school. She taught in several country schools, finishing her career in May, 1977, in the Zumbrota School District. She was briefly married to Archie Swenson. In 1976, Lucile and her sister, Beatrice, moved from the homestead to the west side of Cannon Falls. They lived together ever since. For years, Lucile sang in the Swedish choir at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. She enjoyed painting and had an artistic flair. She had a fondness for animals and looked forward to traveling with Beatrice, including overseas trips to Scandinavian countries, where they learned more about their heritage. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mathilda Johnson and sister, Beatrice Johnson. She is survived by cousins. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church for Lucile and her sister Beatrice, who died Thursday, October 6. Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin will officiate. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wade Pince, Gary Otto, Paul Schafer, Jill Fredrickson, Leon Hanson and Pastor Nick Fisher-Broin. Memorials are preferred to Spring Garden Lutheran Church.
