Lowell Casimer Nappin, age 80, a longtime resident of Cannon Falls, died on Sunday evening, October 18, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Lowell was born on June 19, 1929 in Wilton, WI, the son of Casimer “Casey” and Amanda (Theisen) Nappin. He attended rural country school, and went on to farm with his father near Cannon Falls.
He married Agnes Palm on September 17, 1949 at St. Bonifas Catholic Church in Hastings. He and his wife started working at Smead Manufacturing in Hastings, and in 1963 they moved to a farm north of Cannon Falls. They raised three sons, Robert, Donald and Gerald. Together with his sons, they raised and showed registered quarter horses.
From 1970-1991, Lowell worked at CF Industries in Rosemount as an equipment operator. He then went to Econo Foods in Cannon Falls, where he worked carry out until 2005. He was a member of St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
Lowell’s wife, Agnes died on June 12, 1997, having been married for nearly 48 years. He married LaVonne E. Johnson on October 24, 1998 at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls.
Lowell loved to play cards, especially 500 and Euchre. He will be remembered most by his family and friends for his outgoing nature, and his great sense of humor!
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, LaVonne of Cannon Falls; his three sons, Robert (MaryJo) of Owatonna, Donald (Mary) of Red Wing and Gerald (Barb) of Wanamingo; 8 grandchildren, Chad, Jesse, Cody, Ryan, Amy, Kristen, Brittany and Nicole; 11 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Carissa, Ellie, Dakota, Braydon, Hailey, Gavin, Avery, Ethan, Arielle, and William; sisters, LaDonna Anderson of Lakeville and Ardelle (Jerry) Dohmen of Hastings; nieces and nephews; five step children, Kirk (Carla) Johnson of Cannon Falls, Wendy (Larry) Aamodt of Cannon Falls, Craig (Pam) Johnson of Hastings, Vance (Angie) Johnson of Taylors Falls, and Lori (Brian) McCullen of Cannon Falls; and 17 step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; two grandchildren, Todd and Sharon Nappin; and daughter-in-law, Angela Nappin.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Carol Sinykin officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and step grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21 from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Visitation will also be held on Thursday at church from 10-11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Kidney Foundation of the Upper Midwest (620 S. 10th Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55415) or the American Diabetes Association (Mpls-St. Paul MN Office, Parkdale Ctr, 5100 Gamble Dr., St. Louis Park, MN 55416.)
Interment will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Miesville.
