Loren Steenblock

Loren E. Steenblock, age 89 of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Angels Care Center.

Loren was born on December 21, 1919 in Campbell, MN, the son of Winthrop and Alberta (Van Hovel) Steenblock. He attended grade school and high school in Campbell, and worked on the family farm for a time. He then went to Hawthorne, CA where he worked in a Northrup Aircraft Plant. He served with the US Army during W.W. II in the Ordnance Division from 1941-45, 28 months of which was served in the Aleutian Islands. He was employed in the Pontiac garage in Fergus Falls, and for a John Deere dealer in Campbell. He worked 14 years as manager of the municipal liquor store in Rosemount. From there he came to Diamond Jim’s in Lilydale where he worked as a bartender for 11 years. They came to Cannon Falls in 1971, and he was employed by the City of Cannon Falls as disposal plant operator for seven years. He retired in 1979.

Loren married Dorothy Daniels on June 24, 1967 at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, where they lived all of their married life.

He was a longtime member of the First English Lutheran Church, a member of the Kraft-Ostrom American Legion Post #142, Nelson Scofield VFW Post #4452, Masonic Oriental Lodge #34 AF & AM, and Shriners Osmun Temple AAONMS of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy on July 30, 2007; brothers, Richard, Clarence, Lester, Melvin and Alden; and sister, Clara Gorske.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Weber of Littleton, CO; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene (Harvey) Sumner of Cannon Falls, and sister-in-law, Jane Daniels of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Dan Forsgren officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.



Active pallbearers will be Dan, Jason, Lynn and Dale Steenblock, Jay Chytracek and Peter Daniels.



Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to First English Lutheran Church, American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
