Lillian Eleanore Peatow, age 89 of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2010 at the Cannon Falls Medical Center.
Lillian was born the oldest of eight children on November 13, 1920 in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Myron and Anna (Reetz) Ziebarth. She grew up in Charles City and graduated from high school there.
She married Frederick Peatow on January 1, 1947. Lillian always worked full time, and while in Waterloo, she was employed as a meat wrapper at Eagle Food Store for 18 years. After moving to Cedar Rapids, she worked for many years as a baker for Bishop’s Cafeteria, until retiring.
In her youth, she enjoyed gardening. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and dancing. When she was 55 years old, she had lost her eye sight. At that time she became a huge sports fan, and also made many crocheted hangers.
Lillian was a resident at Freeborn Manor in Cannon Falls, and was a member of St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church.
Lillian will be remembered most for her love of family, especially her grandchildren!
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Erik Jr.) Erikstrup of Burnsville and Linda Rifenberick of Cannon Falls; six grandchildren, April (Wade) Brooks, Brett (Michelle) Dawson, Sean (Sherree) Rifenberick, Scott Rifenberick, Alison (Jeffrey) McCusker and Ian (fiancé, Jessica Kraft) Rifenberick; twelve great-grandchildren, Teresa, Mandy, Ben, Kacie, Mary Ann, Blake, Nicholas, Aaliyah, Alexandra, Zachary, Lillian and Talant; brother, James (Geri) Ziebarth of San Diego, CA; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick on June 14, 1996; sisters and brothers, Gwendolyn Boothe, Robert Ziebarth, Marian Stenseth, Myron Jr., Darrell and Virgil Ziebarth.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, 7459 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls, with Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Carol Sinykin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials in Lillian’s name are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Active pallbearers will be Brett Dawson, Sean, Scott and Ian Rifenberick, Erik Erikstrup Jr., and Jeffrey McCusker.
