Lenard Larsen

Lenard Emil Larsen, age 83 of Cannon Falls, died on Monday morning, August 27, 2007 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.



Lenard was born on August 29, 1923 in Foley, MN, the son of Emil and Clara (Barton) Larsen.

He served with the US Navy during World War II, and was stationed in England. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945.

He lived most of his life in the Dennison, Inver Grove and Cannon Falls areas. He was an active, lifelong member of Vang Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He always enjoyed helping with the Vang lutefisk supper.



Lenard married Helen Svien in 1942, and they raised two children, Richard and Sharon. Helen died in November of 1989, following a lengthy illness. Lenard and their children were with her at all times during her illness. Their son, Richard died in 1995, and Lenard has been a father figure to his son-in-law, John for years.

Lenard was an avid deer hunter and loved to fish. He was a charter member of the Lucky Eleven Hunting Club. He was also a member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 in Cannon Falls.

He married Karen Harvey-Roberts on December 8, 1990 at Harmony, MN. They enjoyed traveling, and took trips to Las Vegas, El Paso, TX and the largest one to Alaska. In his retirement, he did a lot of volunteer work, including the Shepard Center in Cannon Falls, and delivering Meals on Wheels. He loved taking care of cats in their neighborhood. He also loved to play cards, with cribbage being his favorite. He loved winning with the grandkids. He also loved talking baseball, football and farming with the great-grandkids.

Lenard will be remembered most for his love of family, and will be dearly missed his wife, daughter, siblings and many friends! "Gramps" was especially loved by his grandkids and great-grandkids.



He is survived by his wife of nearly 17 years, Karen of Cannon Falls; daughter, Sharon (John) Sommers of Mankato; step-son, James (Sherie) Roberts of Kenyon; seven grandchildren, Dean (Connie) Larsen, Chris (Doug) Buan, Sheila Loya, Shelly (John) Manigold and John (Kazumi) Sommers, Joshua and Justin Roberts; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jensina and Jay Larsen, Tonya and Crystal Haugen, Joseph and Shawn Buan, Mitchell and Jacob Loya, Anna Sommers, Ruby Loya, Perla Loya, Jean Pierre Loya and Ben Manigold; brothers and sister, Emil "Bud" (Toni) Larsen of Brainerd, Edward (Lillian) Larsen of Atlanta, GA, Shirley (Esko) Eskola of Victoria, MN, Ernest "Dick" (Carol) Larsen of Coon Rapids, and Francis "Frank" (Ardy) Larsen of Mankato; and numerous nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; son, Richard; great-grandson, Victor Loya Jr.; brother, Harry (Helen) Larsen; and sisters, Helen (Merlin) Phillips, Agnes (Vern) Abalard, Esther (Everett) Millam, Donna (Stanley) Schelde, Bernice (Clarence) Setter and Clara Larsen.





Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 30 at 11 a.m. at the Vang Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gerald W. Gengenbach officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church from 10-11 a.m.

Memorials are preferred to the Chapel Fund at Angels Care Center, Shepherd Center, Vang Lutheran Church, and the American Cancer Society.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Weibel, Harold Detlie, Robert Svien, Douglas Larsen, Larry and Duane Buchta. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Lucky Eleven Hunting Club, Ed, Bud and Frank Larsen, Esko Eskola, Ralph Maki, Everett Millam, Vern Abalard, Boyd Johnson, Clarence Setter and Merl Phillips.
