Larry Allan Robinson, age 55 of Stanton, died at his home early Wednesday morning, April 30, 2008.
Larry was born on July 23, 1952 in Red Wing, the son of Harry S. and Betty (Drentlaw) Robinson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Stanton United Methodist Church, where he has continued his lifelong membership.
Larry graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1970, and went on to enlist in the US Army Reserves on July 24, 1970. He served for over 29 years, retiring on March 21, 2000. Larry had also worked for over 30 years, as a baker at the Carleton College in Northfield, until his health forced him to retire in November, 2007.
Larry married Carol A. Thielbar in September, 1973. They had three children together, and later divorced. Larry married Blanche L. Skluzacek on May 30, 2003 at the Stanton United Methodist Church.
Larry was an honest, strong and determined man. He was known for his problem-solving, and being a perfectionist at everything he did. He will be remembered most for his strong love of his family! His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren!
In his younger years, Larry and his boys would help Larry's parents with the milking and farming. No matter what the season, Larry loved being outdoors, especially in the country. He enjoyed early mornings, and watching sunrises. He enjoyed gardening, working on the yard, and decorating the yard for the holidays. He also was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying boating, fishing and hunting. He bowled in leagues for most of his life! He also enjoyed horseshoes!
He was a member of the Kraft-Ostrom American Legion Post #142 in Cannon Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche; sons, Larry (Becky) of Wanamingo, and Joshua (fianc??, Sam Flom) of Cannon Falls; four grandchildren, Kylie, Brooke, Brianna and Logan; parents, Harry and Betty Robinson of Stanton; brothers and sisters, Betty Ann (Russ) Johnson of Northfield, Harrylynn (Sharon) of Medford, Marlene Wilson (Jeff Wiseman) of Stanton, and Sharon Stone of Burnsville; two step sons, Thomas Kodada Jr. and Jeffrey Kodada, both of Lonsdale; mother-in-law, Marion M. Skluzacek and brother-in-law, Gary (Joyce) Skluzacek, all of Lonsdale; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Karla Jean on August 26, 1990; and father-in-law, Clement Skluzacek.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Arthur L. Hill of the Stanton United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow at the Stanton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Duane Hermanson, William Becker, Bob Freiermuth, Craig Swanson, Darrell Valek and Thomas Heski. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Olson, Jason and Jared Robinson, Clayton and Chad Wilson, and Gordy Stone.
Memorials are preferred to the Stanton United Methodist Church.
