Kevin was born on January 27, 1966 in Lake City, the son of Peter and Sandra (Nemitz) Ehlers. Kevin attended Lake City schools, and entered the Army Reserves while in high school. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1984.
He started dating his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Peterson, and worked in Lake City for a year after his high school graduation until she graduated in 1985. They both moved to Rochester, where Kevin attended trade school in Rochester to be an automotive technician and worked in the auto field for 13 years. He later returned to trade school for information technology. He was currently employed with Veracity in Minnetonka.
