Kenneth Johnson, age 98, of Cannon Falls, died Tuesday, July 28, at Cannon Rivers Senior Living, surrounded by his family.
Kenneth Harold Johnson was born on March 7, 1922 in Cannon Falls, the son of Otto and Anna (Anderson) Johnson. He grew up in the area and attended Cannon Falls High School. On August 2, 1942 Kenneth was married to June Nelson at the Vasa Lutheran Church. Kenneth served his country in the US Army during WWII. Following his discharge, he worked for the Swift Plant in St. Paul. Following that, he moved back to Cannon Falls and farmed for area farmers. In 1947, he reenlisted in the US Navy and served at the Twin Cities Naval Air Station for 19 years. Kenneth retired from the navy in 1965 and worked for the railroad in Cannon Falls for 6 years. Finally, Kenneth worked for the City of Cannon Falls for 14 years.
Kenneth was a member of First English Lutheran Church and the Nelson Scofield VFW Post #4452 where he served on the Color Guard. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Golden Agers Senior Program, and the Food Shelf. His hobbies included fishing, camping, and traveling. He visited many states as well as Sweden. Kenneth was proud of his family and enjoyed being with them whenever he could.
Survivors include his children Susan Olson, Margaret “Peggy” Reincke, Janice “Jan” (Roger Flaten, Alice “Alyce” (Gary) Stiller, and Charles “Chuck” Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law JoAnne Johnson, Lola Johnson, Frances Hillier, and Jan Nelson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife June; sons-in-law Richard Olson and Leon Reincke; grandson-in-law William Baack; siblings Theodore “Ted” (Annabelle) Johnson, Edward “Eddie” (Gladys) Johnson, Vivian (Ervin) Quist, Florence (Louie) Cartwright, Clarence “Donkey” Johnson, Robert (Lois) Johnson, Doris (Pete) Egge, Merlyn Johnson, and Merle Johnson; and brothers-in-law Jerry Nelson and James Hillier.
Private family memorial services will be on Saturday, August 1, at 2:00 pm at First English Lutheran Church, 511 W. Belle St, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. Social distancing will be followed, and masks are required. Lundberg Funeral Home is assisting the family.
