Kay Bailey

Kay LaJune (nee Kuhlman) Bailey, age 70 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at her home on Monday afternoon, September 25, 2006. Kay was born on July 6, 1936 in Waseca, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Metzler) Kuhlman. She attended 11 years of school in Waldorf, MN and later moved to Cannon Falls in her senior year. She graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1954. She then pursued airline training, and worked for National Airlines in Washington, DC for 7 years. She first worked as a communication specialist/teletypist, and later as a reservations supervisor. She married Hassell Jackson Plaster, and they later divorced. She met her future husband, Richard L. Bailey in 1979 at the Cannonball Restaurant in Cannon Falls. They were married on August 22, 1982 in Apple Valley. They worked there until 2002, when Dick and Kay both retired. Kay had been employed at the Cannonball for 23 years. She enjoyed traveling and camping, and had collected Dickens houses and teddy bears! She is survived by her husband, Dick; two daughters, Cynthia Bechel of Spring Valley, WI and Sandra Hannah (fianc??, Gregg Morrill and his daughter, Megan) of Cannon Falls; four step children, Kathy (Chester) Proctor of Dover, Tami (Ivan) Vreeman of Harmony, Karen (Lowell) Meyers of Chatfield and Mark (Crystal) Bailey of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Chad Plaster, Casey, Katrina, Kyle and Carly Cook, and Mark Hannah II; ten step-grandchildren, Cindy (Steve) Wright, Rob, Cally and Mikel Proctor, Corey, Seth and Britt Vreeman, Ryan and James Meyers, and Dakota Bailey; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David (Shirley) Bailey of Rochester and Diane (James) LaFavor of Spring Valley; and special companion, her Yorkshire terrier Miss Poopsie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ida Kuhlman; and infant brother, Robert in 1945. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Lynne Rigg officiating. Interment will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be William Dibble, David "Gabby" Gaines, Curt Luebke, Gary Castle, Eric Froyum and Dan Grunewald. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
