Cannon Falls

Karl Alfred Nelson, age 76 of Cannon Falls, died on Sunday evening, April 3, 2022, at the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis after a long battle with cancer.

Karl was born in Cannon Falls, MN on November 28, 1945, the son of Milton “Cyclone” and Amanda (Harthun) Nelson. Karl attended Cannon Falls High School, graduating in 1963. On November 21st, 1964, he married Lynda L. Felde in Red Wing, MN.

After graduating high school, he studied engineering at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities for two years before enlisting in the Air Force. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War primarily working on aircrafts for the duration of his enlistment.

Following his service, he continued working in technology, first in software then in computer sales for 20 years. In 1991, Karl opened EDP Computer Systems in Cannon Falls, as the owner and operator. He was blessed to get to work with his wife Lynda and daughter Heather at EDP for many years, retiring in 2013.

In his free time, he enjoyed being an active member of the Cannon Falls Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and VFW, serving as Commander for a short period.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Amanda; his beloved wife, Lynda on 9/30/2020; their daughter, Heather on 3/6/2016; and his sister, Judith “Judy” Christofferson on 6/18/2021.

He is survived by son, Mike Nelson (Shelley); son-in-law, Gene Brummund; grandchildren, Alex Brummund (Nadia), Hannah Brummund, Carly Huelskamp Smith (Brad), and Emily Thesing (Adam); brother-in-law, Bruce Christofferson; sister-in-law, Esther Amundson; and many nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held for Karl and Lynda in the early summer. More details to come.
